Case Study 1

Assessing a new activity based workplace of a large mining company in its regional headquarter, using IoT, data science and ethnography.

CONTEXT

Flex office layout implementation was analysed by WX to better understand the usage of various spaces  and to better understand the people within each space.

The floor was made up of 12 different spaces in a flex office format; there were various neighbourhoods, cafeterias, quiet zones, meeting rooms etc.

SOLUTION

During this time, WX used data and employee experience evaluations using different personas  to understand space usage. WX identified recurrent issues such as misutilisation of spaces, not enough space for certain types of areas due to popularity and  incorrect furniture used, amongst others.

BENEFITS

WX recommended a solution which reduced the m² of spaces not sufficiently used, implemented better meeting room management systems, a permanent sensor solution to continue tracking the space occupation and added adaptable furniture which could move with the changes of the office.
